Ganymede after 12 days

I've finally come up for air after being quite busy with the Ganymede release.

I ran some download numbers, and with 425,000 downloads so far we're on track to beat last year's Europa numbers.

JEE 163033
38.4%
Classic 155451 36.6
Java 56196 13.2
CDT 38052 9.0
Modeling 4582 1.1
RCP 4228 1.0
Reporting 2727 0.6

On the OS/platform side:
win32 354893 83.6
linux32 40183 9.5
mac 17915 4.2
linux64 9473 2.2

Friends of Eclipse used their superhero powers to download before (and during) the rush:

June 24: 226 Friends downloads
June 25: 436 Friends downloads
June 26: 47 Friends downloads

Go Ganymede!

How does Ganymede RCP's percentage of downloads compare to Europa RCP's percentage? How come the package ranking you list in the blog don't reflect those on the download page for all the packages?

I think its difficult to count only on the packages, because many are using P2 installer, only downloading SDK and adding then using Software Updates... perhaps like me modeling plugins.
are those counted ?

Ed: I haven't compared numbers vs. Europa. Also, I believe the popularity rank on the packages page is counted as soon as one clicks on the package, as opposed to the download stats, which count a download as soon as you select a mirror (which is actually closer to the download action). Either that, or it's part of my evil conspiracy to hide the modeling project from all our download pages. My next target is getting you off the top-10 :)

Ekke: Indeed, p2 throws our stats way off, as we don't have any way of tracking what gets downloaded from p2. The numbers I posted only include packages, and the Classic/SDK

Denis, my question is specifically to understand the impact on RCP package downloads which might be either the result of being removed from the main page or from actual decreased interest in RCP. Could we get stats for last year's packages somehow, or don't we have them? I'm more interested in relative percentages than absolute numbers.

The fact that modeling is so well hidden is another issue entirely. I doubt it's an evil plot though it seems a glaring omission.

for god sake, isn't it possible to have all packages treated equally (eg: having all packages available on the primary download page) ?

Modeling package got contribution from guys working hard, some of them on their spare time, individuals & from strategic member companies developers as well.

This should be taken into consideration before giving the sensation of quick hide something that it is the result of a yr+ development effort.

This is a way *strange* coming from a meritocraty based organization.

I wouldn't like to rock the bob but clearly this situation is *strange* to many pepole !

Why not proceed with a vote ?

Can we get some explanation ?

All in all these packages are free then equally valuable isn't it ?

cheers,
